WHITE CANE DAY OCTOBER 15!
We Honor Our American Soldiers Past and Present!
This is Fred, a blood donor dog! He saved Katie's life. Pray for Katie, please.

Hello to all,
My name is Chris Bosley and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I am the new Blind Rehab Outpatient Specialist, BROS, for Central Texas Veterans Health Care System.
I have been an instructor at the Waco Blind Rehabilitation Center for four years prior to becoming the BROS.
I have taught in Orientation and Mobility, Living Skill, Adaptive Computer class, and Manual Skills.
I am looking forward to meeting and working with you.
If you have any questions or concerns my phone number is 254-297-3620.
Thank you,
Chris
The big dog is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord. He is huge, part Boxer and part British
Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs.
His handler took this picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some
Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree
just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did.
Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour
in Iraq. His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents.
Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant, go away but come back
and find me! The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard
at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the
doors repeatedly, the soldiers were being held in an old warehouse, until it opened.
Brutus went in and untied his handler and they all escaped.
Brutus is the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you are
ok, he is a big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. He enjoys the
company of cats.

but thought I would leave it anyway! lb.
You jump up from your chair and rush to the kitchen, then wonder why are you there?
You are introduced to someone, shake their hand and cannot recall their name!
You go to the grocery store and come home with everything but what you went for!
If you are one of the many recovering or living with a head trauma, you immediately
believe it is worsening. Talk to your primary health care provider at the local Veterans
Clinic. Have your medicines totally checked including any self medications such as vitamins
and minerals. Take a list to your physician displaying the name and amount of each and every
medication you are currently using.
Cholesterol lowering drugs, especially statins, can produce dementia like side effects. There are other
drugs with like effects. Once your physician has evaluated your medications and suggested their use, you
must then show responsibility, take your medications timely and in the proper dosage with lots of water.
It may take several weeks for you to be "your old self" so do not worry if you hug the dog instead of your loved one
or go get cookies instead of the mail! lb.

A MESSAGE TO THE BLINDED VETERANS
Hello Blinded Veterans of Central Texas,
I will be transferring to the Denver Colorado V.A.
I dont know about bigger and better, but what I will be doing in Denver is
setting up an outpatient blind rehab program where there is none.
I am very excited to be bringing Blind/Low Vision Rehab Services to those who now dont have any.
The truth of the matter is that the pleasure of serving the Blinded Veterans
of Central Texas has been all mine.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Blinded Veterans of Central Texas.
I will miss you all terribly and I wish you health and happiness.
